Marcus Dwayne Bassett, 49, of
Monroe City, Missouri, passed away at 11:44 pm, Sunday, March 30, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2025, at O'Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in
Monroe City, MO. Pastor Paul Washington will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at St. Jude's Cemetery in
Monroe City, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Marcus's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the O'Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in
Monroe City, Missouri.
Marcus was born September 2, 1975, in Kewanee, IL, to William Bassett and Marilyn Washington Bassett.
Survivors include his brothers, William (Nicole) Bassett of Germany, Anthony (Carmen) Bassett of Atlanta, GA, Jerome (Teresa) Bassett of
Monroe City, MO, and Dana (Anna) Bassett of
Monroe City, MO, sister, Latoya Bassett of St. Louis, MO, nieces and nephews, Dalisha, Joshua, Jacob, Jerome Jr., Rakiyah, Reuben and Maleah and a host of cousins including a special cousin Bertha Mae Scott of Burlington, IA.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents.
Marcus was full of kindness and encouragement, and leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter, and genuine friendship. Known for his signature smile and approachable demeanor, Marcus was a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like the most important person in the room.
His professional journey was marked by a heartfelt commitment to service, having enriched the lives at the Monroe City Nutrition Center and the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop. Marcus's passion for education and music led him to volunteer teaching and sharing his talents at the Promiseland Education Center, where he taught various subjects including music and inspired many.
An individual of diverse interests, Marcus was a talented musician, playing both the keyboard and the trumpet with equal skill. His love for music included various artists from Journey to Paula Abdul. Marcus's enthusiasm wasn't limited to music; he was an avid collector of baseball cards, a devoted fan of the KC Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, and LA Lakers, and he had a particular fondness for quoting lines from 80's comedies. Marcus was also a very intellectual individual who could discuss any topic with accuracy and enthusiasm. He could hold an audience captive for hours with knowledge and wisdom especially when it came to the Bible.
Marcus will be remembered as a kind soul, a friend to all, and an eternal optimist. His presence will be deeply missed by those fortunate to have known him.

Monroe City, MO and Stuart Carter Temple Church of God and Christ in New London, MO.
