Marlene Jo Carson age 87 of Colchester, Illinois, passed away at 2:24 P.M. Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Colchester, Illinois. She was born August 22, 1937, in Macomb, Illinois to George J.and Selma Aleyne Clark Jones. Jo was united in marriage September 14, 1958, at the First Christian Church in Colchester to Larry L. Carson. Surviving to mourn her passing is 1 son: Stephen L (Mary) Carson, Colchester, 1 daughter: Julie A (David) Bland, Colchester, 6 grandchildren: Tanner (Ashleigh) Carson, Rushville, Georgie (Mitch) Hea, Mt. Sterling, Grant (Bri) Bland, LaHarpe, Tucker (Mollie Bates) Bland, Davenport, Iowa, Cora (Murphy) Horrell, Macomb, Grace Vyhnanek, Macomb, 4 great grandchildren: Tatum Bland, Crue Bland, Melanie Hea, Vivienne Horrell, 2 brother and sister in laws: Lanny (Margaret) Carson, Colchester, Mike (Pam) Carson, Colchester, several nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and her beloved Sadie Sue. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years and several special Goldens. Jo was a 1958 graduate of Blessing School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois. After she graduated she went on to work at the McNeil Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. She was involved in many different clubs and committees. Jo was Co-founder of the Colchester Sew and So Club, a member of the Colchester Methodist Church, Co-chair of the Colchester Variety Show for 30 plus years and the Colchester 150th Museum, and helped keep the stage going at the Colchester Labor Day Celebration untill 2017. In her early days she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, room mom for both of her children while they were in grade school. She and her husband Larry owned Jones Mortuary, where she spent most of her days. She loved to host the annual Super Bowl party and all of the family get togethers. She loved to travel with Larry, whether it was a week get away or a quick trip to Quincy. She is the compass that has and will guide our family not only through her actions but her faith. Jo loved many things but most importantly she loved her family. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M, Friday, August 1, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester with Rev. Jim Clayton, burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 31, 2025. Memorial is to Jo Carson West Prairie Nursing Scholarship.
