Pearl Snyders Obituary

Dateline: Batchtown
Surrounded by love, Pearl Ann (Devening) Snyders, 79, of Batchtown, IL, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at Calhoun Nursing & Rehab Center in Hardin, IL.
Born on July 22, 1946, to Edwin "E.T." and Minnie (Hagen) Devening of Fieldon, IL, Pearl was the youngest of four children. After graduating from Jersey Community High School in 1965, Pearl was introduced to her best friend and life partner Robert "Bob" Snyders at the annual St. Mary's church picnic in Fieldon, IL. Two months later, Bob was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany. Pearl remained by Bob's side, sending letters and candid polaroids to his barracks overseas until he returned to the States in 1967. Reunited upon his return, Bob and Pearl were married in the company of their family and friends on September 2, 1967, at St. Mary's Church in Fieldon, IL.
In the years to follow, Bob and Pearl welcomed 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. When she wasn't caring for the people she loved most, one could have found Pearl milking cows in the barn or riding to a cattle sale with her husband, playing Tuesday night bingo, volunteering at the annual St. Barbara's Church picnic, ankle-deep in the garden tending a row of sweet potatoes, or simply outside in her porch swing watching storm clouds pass.
Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; brother Guy Devening of Fieldon, IL; sisters Katherine (Oliver "Peck") Wessel of Rockbridge, IL and Marie (Russel) Jackson of Rockbridge, IL; and a son, Otto Snyders of Quincy, IL.
In addition to her husband, Pearl is survived by her sister-in-law Helen Devening of Fieldon, IL; brother-in-law Bernie (Gloria) Snyders of Golden Eagle, IL and sister-in-law Karen (Everett) Friedel of Batchtown, IL; two sons, Leon Snyders of Batchtown, IL and Kent (Andrea) Snyders of Batchtown, IL; daughters Patricia (Bernard) Johnes of Batchtown, IL, and Tammy (Tony) Franke of Batchtown, IL; grandchildren Rachel Snyders of Alton, IL, Robert Snyders of Alton, IL, Patrick (Ashley) Snyders of Batchtown, IL, Hayden Snyders of Farmingville, NY, Vincent Johnes of Batchtown, IL, Emily (Tristan) Ontis of Jerseyville, IL, Leslie Johnes (fiancé Patrick Wangler) of Eldred, IL, Ashley Johnes of Batchtown, IL, Margaret Franke of Batchtown, IL, and Allie Franke of Batchtown, IL; and great-grandchildren Braleigh, Kayleigh, and Karsyn Snyders of Alton, IL, and Korbin Snyders of Batchtown, IL. Pearl was excited to welcome another great-grandson in February 2026.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Gress, Kallal, & Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin, IL. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Barbara's Church in Batchtown, IL. Burial will be at St. Barbara's Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hardin, IL.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice, St. Barbara's Cemetery, or masses.
