Bertha Woodberry Obituary

With deep love, we announce the passing of Bertha L. Woodberry, who departed this life on August 2,
2025, in Plainfield, NJ, at the age of 84. Born on September 23, 1940, in Florence, South Carolina, Bertha
was one of eleven children born to the late Rossie Jack Bardon and Coneater Eaddy Bardon. She was
preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers.
Bertha leaves to celebrate her life: two sisters, Ruby Woodberry and Alberta Session; her beloved
children, Phyllis Woodberry, Mack Woodberry (predeceased by London Woodberry), Wendy Woodberry-
Adams (predeceased by Willie Adams), and Milton "Dave" Woodberry (Tammy Woodberry), her grandchildren, Latoya
Woodberry, Isron Woodberry, Jana'e Jernigan, Bobbie Christina Adams, Makenna Woodberry, Takeyah
Woodberry, and Jamar Woodberry; and her great-grandchildren, Elianna Woodberry, Elijah Woodberry,
and Loyal Braswell, great-grand pup Saige and a host of family and friends. Her legacy lives on through
each of them.
Bertha met her high school sweetheart, Arthur, in her early years. Together they moved north and
eventually settled in Boston, MA, where they married in 1963. After having four children, Bertha made
the decision to raise her children in Plainfield, NJ, where she would spend the remainder of her life. Bertha, held
several roles including a hairstylist, lunchroom aide at Woodland Elementary School-before eventually
working as a machine operator at Wadding IP Jaycare, where she retired in 2000.
Bertha's joy came from the simple pleasures-family, friendship, laughter, and love. In her early years,
she could often be found with her dear friend Eva Scott, raising their children side by side. The pair
became known as "The Brady Bunch," dressing their kids alike and sharing in the joys of motherhood and
sisterhood. Later in life, Bertha found happiness in bus trips to Atlantic City, bingo nights and shopping
trips. She loved going to Englishtown, and spending time in the park with her "baby boy," Dave.
In her final years, Bertha was blessed with a strong support system. She was lovingly cared for by
Priscilla, who ensured she got to her appointments and provided countless acts of kindness, and her
dedicated home health aide, Nelly, who consistently made sure she was safe, comfortable, and cared for.
Bertha will be remembered for her strength, humor, love of life, and unwavering devotion to her family.
