Thomas P. Hinton, 72, of Colchester, Illinois, passed away at 10:29 PM Sunday Aug 18, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at his residence.
He was born June 19, 1952, in Galesburg, Illinois to Guy and Merle Elizabeth "Betty" (Worden) Hinton; he married Mary "Jane" Adams on Sept. 29, 2002. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2024.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Hinton of Macomb, IL; Michael (Cari) Hinton of Castle Rock, CO; Janel (Justin) Gruber of Denver, CO: Michelle (Troy) Martin of Fowler, IL; Jerry (Tiffany) Shepler Jr. of Bowen, IL; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Stacey) Hinton of Walnut Creek, CA; sisters, Mary Hinton of Aurora, CO; Sharon (John) Farris of Glendale Heights, IL; Kathy (Joe) Gawlikowski of Aurora, CO; Barb (Wayne) Gibb of Elizabeth, CO; Rosie (Andy) Comet of Aurora, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was drafted into the Army in 1972 and served in Spangdahlem, Germany. Upon returning home, he worked as a manager at McDonalds in Galesburg, IL and later in Macomb. He then worked at Haeger Potteries for many years where he met his future wife, Jane. Most recently, Tom was a Building Services Foreman at Western Illinois University. Tom had a hard shell but a big heart, he was also quite the prankster. He was a very talented woodworker and spent many hours in his garage creating the most beautiful pieces. He was an avid supporter of the NRA and enjoyed shooting guns with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he enjoyed camping with his wife and siblings.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday Sept. 5, 2024 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Hudson will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military rites by Macomb American Legion & VFW. Memorial Contributions may be made to
