Valerie Layton Obituary

Valerie Lemon Layton, 64, returned to her Heavenly home on the morning of Monday, March 31st, 2025. Valerie was born on June 10th, 1960, to Karl and Eva Lemon. She graduated from Kearns High in 1978. She married her eternal companion, Darrell R. Layton, in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on August 1st, 1978. Darrell and Valerie's children are Joshua, Matthew, Rachael, Jacob, Cherece and Casey. Valerie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a strong testimony, that she loved to share, of her knowledge of our loving Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ, and that families can be together forever. She loved reading the scriptures and sharing her favorites with others. One of those was D&C 24:8 Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days. Family was always very important to Valerie. Most memories shared included the time she spent with family, teaching and giving advice, singing, playing games, and watching movies. She always made people feel loved and she spread joy to whoever was with her. Surviving are her husband, Darrell; her children Josh (Brenda), Matt (Karen), Rachael (Jason) Caldwell, Jacob (Tally), Cherece (Casey) Hall; father-in-law Hugh Pierce; grandchildren Emilie, McKenzie, Daylan, Madisynn, Clara, Breanna, Nicholas, Caitlynn, Alaina, Emma, Rylynn, Haddie, Jayda, Jackson, Ava, Wells, Henry; siblings Robert (Kris), Dennis, LuJean (Tim), Laron (Ann), Melvin (Holly), Julia (Julie). Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at 310 N Durphy, Nauvoo. Family and friends may attend a viewing on Thursday, April 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. or on Friday 8:00-8:30 a.m. The interment will take place at the Nauvoo City Cemetery, 3200 Mulholland St, Nauvoo, Illinois 62354. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in the form of cash or check dropped off at the funeral, or Venmo sent to @Karen-Layton-4, in memory of Valerie.
