Alvin N. Mears age 85, longtime resident of Newton, NH, passed unexpectedly at his home on Monday morning, February 10, 2025. Born in Amesbury, March 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Ernest and Irene (Proulx) Mears.
He graduated from Amesbury High School, class of 1958 and attended Nichols College, UNH, and NECCO to receive an associates degree. He worked in the electronics industry in MA and NH.
Alvin was very active in the community of Newton. Serving as baseball coach, animal control officer, town administrative assistant, grant writer for middle school construction and origination of the Town Beach and president of Country Pond Fish and Game Club.
His enjoyment of farming evolved into a part time business called the Wicked Good Farm Stand. Along the way he also started a home business as a Tax Accountant.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Alvin enjoyed teaching his children and grandsons the adventures of the great outdoors. The family spent time together skiing, snowmobiling, swimming and hiking at their Maine cottages.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances Sue (Drabik) Mears; his two daughters, MaryAnne Barnett and husband Frank of Newton, and Susan Clough and husband Herb of Fremont, and his son Peter Mears and wife Christine of Newton. He was Pepere to his much loved eight grandsons and their spouses, Ryan and Gillian Naujoks, Jeremy and Cassandra Naujoks, Alexander Barnett, Andrew and Abigail Clough, Evan and Brittani Clough, Austin Clough and Sara Hunt, Dustin Mears and Erin Brunelle, and Patrick Mears and Shannon Leigh as well as 8 beloved great grandchildren. As well as his parents, he was predeceased by his step father Henry Mailloux and sister Corrine Mears Case.
Our dear husband, father and Pepere, you will be missed greatly.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA and a service will be held at 6:30 P.M. prior to the end of the visiting hours.
