Astrid “Mary” Merrick

Astrid "Mary" Merrick, a longtime resident of Haverhill passed away peacefully on September 26 at Haverhill Rehabilitation Center surrounded by loving family. Born on July 10,1922, in Peabody MA, Astrid was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Panagopoulos)Christos. She grew up in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1941 then went on to receive her degree from McIntosh Business College. Mary began her career as a bookkeeper back in the day when the shoe industry was key in the Merrimack Valley. She often reminisced about her time spent as office manager of the former Haymaker Shoe Company of Haverhill, MA and the Amorette Shoe Company of Lawrence MA. It was while in the shoe industry that she met and married the love of her life, Elliott A Merrick. Mary and Elliot were married 56 years and spent many of those years as "snowbirds" traveling back and forth between Haverhill and Florida enjoying family and friends along the way. After his passing in 2010 Mary remained active in the community, enjoying her family and watching her young great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Holy Apostles St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, The Ladies Philoptochos Society and The Daughter's of Penelope, Rhea Chapter #136. Mary is survived by her daughter Susan Bouchard and her husband Jonathan of Plaistow,NH. She leaves behind three beloved grandchildren and their spouses- Kristin(Bouchard)Guerriero and her husband Thomas; Matthew Bouchard and his wife Samantha; Cameron Bouchard and his wife Victoria and three cherished great-grandchildren- Addison Bouchard, Ellie Bouchard and Rocco Guerriero. Mary was predeceased by her husband Elliott A. Merrick and her two brothers, Soteris and John Christos. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Mary's life on Thursday October 2nd from 10am-11am at the Holy Apostles Saint Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church Winter St. Haverhill, MA. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
