Dennis C. Keefe

Dennis C. Keefe, age 70, of Newburyport, passed away at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Wednesday evening, January 29, 2025, after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of 33 years to the love of his life, Lee A. Harris. 

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was one of 3 siblings of the late Thomas Keefe and Marjorie (Cronin) Keefe. After graduating from High School, Dennis went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. 

Throughout his life Dennis was a consummate public servant. Dennis followed his passion for criminal justice by proudly serving as a military police officer with United States Air Force from 1978 to 1986, ultimately honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. 

After leaving the Air Force, he worked at the IRS, MA Department of Revenue in the Child Support Office, and lastly working in Administration with the U.S. Department of Immigration. In the 1990’s, Dennis served as a part time sports reporter for the Newburyport Daily News, where he excelled at writing and reporting on high school athletic games. 

Dennis was known for his kind heart and love of animals, especially cats. He enjoyed relaxing in the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island. He had a love of history and read extensively. He never shied back from telling a funny story with a passion that made his stories even more interesting. 

He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Lee A. Harris; his son, Christopher Keefe; his brother, Kevin O’Keefe and wife Jennifer; his two nieces and three nephews, Heather (Kimball) Tarantino and husband Paul, Sean Kimball and wife Jennifer, and Darin Kimball and wife Sara Epsztein, Mackay Harrison-Keefe and husband Matt, and Kyle O’Keefe and wife Rhiana; eleven grandnieces and nephews, along with extended family and many dear friends. He was also lovingly known as “Uncle Buck” to his nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved sister, Carol Kimball.
