Awanda Koehler Obituary

WARSAW, Ill. -- Wanda Louisa Koehler, 98, of Warsaw, formerly a lifelong resident of Wythe Township, passed away at 11:55 p.m. June 24, 2014, in Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

She was born on July 23, 1915, in Wythe Township, a daughter of Samuel and Olga E. Satory Jacobs. She married Carl Koehler on July 7, 1934, in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ Parsonage in Sutter. He died Feb. 19, 1986.

Awanda attended Orange School, Wythe Township, and Warsaw High School, Warsaw. She lived in Wythe Township all of her life, until moving to Warsaw with her son and daughter-in-law in 2003. She and her husband farmed in Wythe Township for many years.

She enjoyed needle work, sewing and traveling, especially her trips to Europe. Awanda excelled at quilting and had made many quilts for her family. She also enjoyed wintering in Pharr, Texas, with her son, Duane.

Awanda was one of the original "Grey Ladies" at Memorial Hospital, Carthage. She served as the family genealogist, keeping many records, notes and books throughout the years.

She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ where she was an original superintendent of the Bible school and remained very active. She especially loved her family and the time they spent together.

Survivors include two sons, Richard "Curly" (Sue) Koehler of Warsaw and Duane Koehler of Pharr; seven grandchildren, Karla (Ronald) Froman, Lisa Koehler, Brad (Cindy) Koehler, Angie (Rob) Munson, Bill Koehler, Keith (Lisa) Koehler and Tina Jensen; 13 great-grandchildren, Matt (Apryl) Froman, Stuart (Stephanie) Froman, Lucas Satterly, Dylan Satterly, Kathryn Koehler, Anne Koehler, Ellie Munson, Isaac Munson, Kevin Koehler, Rikki Koehler, Rhiannon Koehler, Daniel Koehler and Chelsea Jensen; four great-great-grandchildren, Gracey Froman, Dawsyn Froman, Maddux Froman and Lucas Finch; and one sister, Vera Royce of Nauvoo. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

Awanda was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lorine Meyersick and Zella Wollbrink; a brother, Robert Jacobs; and a daughter-in-law, Penny Koehler.

SERVICES: Cremation rites have been accorded. A family burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Bethlehem Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter with the Rev. Roy Paterick conducting.
