Benjamin T. "Ben" Reuschel, age 99, of Quincy, died on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 6:50 pm in Bradford Villa in Quincy.
Ben was born May 1, 1922 in Golden, Illinois, the son of Louis H. and Mary Fredricks Reuschel. He married Catherine M. Holtman on October 19, 1947 in Golden, IL. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2021.
Ben was a farmer most of his life and lived in the Payson area for many years. Ben loved kids and drove a school bus for many years while they lived in Payson. He was a dedicated 4-H leader and was a long time softball coach for boys and girls teams.
In 1971, Ben and Catherine moved to the Moorman Research Farm where he served as a night watchman. They later moved to Quincy in 1985. Ben was living at Bradford Villa for the past five years with his wife, Catherine, until her death earlier this year. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and later at St. James Lutheran Church.
Ben was an accomplished woodworker who was skilled on the lathe, making baskets and caning chairs. He took special pride in making hand crafted gifts for his family. After moving to Quincy, Ben shared his talents while volunteering at the Quincy Senior Center, where he repaired and re caned chairs as well as teaching others to cane chairs and make baskets.
Survivors include three children, Mark D. (Christine) Reuschel of Fowler, IL, Rebecca S. (Kent) Muder of Twin Falls, ID, and Kristin B. (William) Humphrey of Quincy; five grandchildren, Michael (Kindall) Reuschel, Ben (Kyley) Reuschel, Jennifer (Josh) Wiechert, Eric (Amanda) Muder, and Erin Humphrey; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Louis Reuschel of Golden, IL; and a sister, Dorothy Ufkes.
In addition to his wife, Ben was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and George Reuschel, five sisters, Esther Buss, Letha Post, Mary Haschemeyer, Elda Gronewold, and Ruth Ideus.
Services: 2:00 pm on Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
