Berniece (Niece) Elizabeth Peters went to her Heavenly Home on March 30th, 2026.
Berniece was born August 29th, 1935 in Quincy, IL. Berniece was the youngest of ten children born to Sylvester & Gertrude Dieker Kamphaus.
Berniece attended St. Anthony Grade School. She was labeled as the "Teacher's Pet" in Kindergarten as she was the Only Child in that Grade.
Berniece then begged her parents to let her to go to Quincy High School. Due to Financial Hardship, this was a big decision for her parents. Berniece worked many jobs while in High School, including Woolworth's, Kresge's and Block & Kuhl's (where she sold Lady of the Evening Gowns).
Berniece excelled in school. She was a Straight "A" Student. She was an Excellent Typist, typing over 100 wpm on a Manual Typewriter with Carbon Copies. This Talent scored her a Great Job at Moorman Manufacturing.
She married William J. Peters on October 6th, 1956 at St John's Catholic Church. They were married 49 years before he preceded her in death on May 24th, 2005.
Berniece loved playing Volleyball, Softball & Basketball. She even tried out for the Boy's Basketball Team in High School. She also loved to go Fishing, usually catching the Biggest Fish of those who were with her.
Berniece enjoyed the Simple Pleasures in Life. She loved planting a garden & planting flowers. Red Roses were her Favorite. Berniece also Loved watching & feeding the birds, Especially the Cardinals.
Berniece was a Very Kind, Gentle & Patient Person. She was often teased that God gave her all the patience and there was none left for anyone else. However, she is what we considered to be "Low Key Onery". If we were in the Drive Thru at McDonald's or TCBY and they were taking too long, she would say "Let's just give them a Tap Tap", meaning with the car. Or if you turned your head, she was the first person to put her finger in the icing. She also had the cutest sense of humor. If someone farted, she would tell them to "Turn the Other Cheek" or if you were having a bad day, she would say "If All Else Fails-Cuss". She will be remembered for her famous line, "Don't let 'em get to you."
Berniece's Greatest Accomplishment was the birth of her nine children, after the miscarriage of her first child and the doctor telling her she would not be able to have children, and raising all if them to be Very Independent Persons.
After the birth of her second child, Berniece became a Stay-At-Home Mom and the secretary for her husband at Peters Body Shop.
Berniece was of the Catholic Faith and was a Member of St. Mary's/Blessed Sacrament Church for over 67 years. She was a Member of the Ladies Alter Society for Many Years. She Loved attending Card Parties and various other functions at the church & school.
