David L. Rowlands, age 91, of Quincy, died Friday, February 27, 2026, in Blessing Hospital.
David was born August 25, 1934, in Hawaii, the only son of Llewelyn and Gertrude Latimer Rowlands. He married LaVila Welsh on December 22, 1956, in Grandview, Idaho. She survives.
David was born and raised on the Big Island, Hawaii. He attended from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. David graduated from the University of Idaho in 1955. After graduation, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. For over 30 years, he proudly served his country, retiring in February of 1987 with the rank of Colonel. He was a man of proven true grit, intelligence, and persistence, having acquired three Masters Degrees in History, Public Administration, and Education. After retirement, David served three years as Executive Director of the California Rodeo before moving to Henderson, Nevada, in 1993. The Rowlands were well traveled, they enjoyed cruises twice a year and had visited destinations the world over. David was a scratch golfer, playing three or even four times per week. David and LaVila moved to Quincy in 2020 to be near family. Above all else, David was a family man, his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors in addition to his wife, LaVila, include: two sons, Steve (Tish) Rowlands of Quincy, and Jim Rowlands of Collegeville, PA; three grandchildren, David (Megan) Rowlands, Sarah Rowlands, and Nikki (Max Skolnick) Rowlands; and two great grandchildren, Noah and Lily Rowlands.
David was preceded in death by his parents, father, Llewelyn and Gertrude Rowlands.
