Gene L. R. Mann, age 83, of Quincy, IL, died on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 8:11 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
Survived by his beautiful wife, Jacqueline A. Mann, their six children and eight grandchildren. Ellen (Keith) Foster of Rapid City, South Dakota, Laura Parker of Quincy, IL, Tim Mann of Quincy, IL, Mark (Lindsey) Mann of Orem, UT, Mike Mann of Daybreak, UT, and Jim Mann of Quincy, IL. Grandchildren: Whitney Foster, Zoe Mann, Ellie Mann, Gaven (Carmen) Mann, Noah (Callie) Mann, Jack Mann, Payton Mann, and Miles Mann.
Gene was born August 26, 1938, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of Lee Roy Mann and Wesley Thelma Reedy Mann. He married Jacqueline A. Millard on August 19, 1960, in Lima, Ohio.
Gene received his master's degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to Quincy to serve as the director of program development for the Adams County Health Department and in 1970 became the Administrator of the Adams County Health Department. He was a member of the Quincy Rotary Club where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow in 1994. Gene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Gene served his community in many ways as he served on various boards. He was past president of Quincy Area Safety Council (1980), Past president Adams County Chapter of American Heart Association (1982)
Board Quincy YMCA (1970-1976), Quincy Chamber of Commerce, Board of American Cancer Society, Board, Adams County Chapter American Red Cross, Board and past president of Good Samaritan, Board Adams County Council on Alcoholism now Recovery Resources, Chairman of committee to establish 911, board and past president of Quincy Public Library, board member of Adams County Ambulance, board and past president of Adams County Senior Citizens Council, Director Madonna House.
Gene also served his church as he was called to serve as a district president, stake president, bishop, seminary teacher, patriarch, temple worker and various teaching positions.
Before coming to Quincy Gene taught school and coached sports at Calvert County Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Lily Mann and a brother, William Mann.
Services: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
Memorials: Transitions of Western Illinois or Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
