Harvey John Dedert, 88, of Quincy, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL.
Harvey was born November 14, 1937, in Quincy, IL to Albert and Hilda (Mohrman) Dedert. He married Sally Ann Behrens on December 15, 1962, at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2017.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Rogers (Paul) of Quincy, and many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one son, Jay Harvey Dedert; two sisters, Mary Ellen Beckman Maxwell and Norma Jean Tipton.
He graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1955 and was a member of FFA and the Rifle Club. He was recognized in 1962 by the Chicago Tribune for Outstanding Achievement in the Illinois National Guard.
Harvey's professional life was that of a farmer. He had a unique talent for understanding the inner workings of machinery and could often be found with his nose in manuals and parts catalogs.
While Harvey was happiest on the farm fixing things or taking the 8N Ford to check the calves, he would often surprise people with his depth of knowledge on a particular subject. He was a voracious reader, subscribing to up to 5 newspapers and upping that number when he discovered online subscriptions.
He was always eager to learn something new. Yet, above all, Harvey was a family man. He was involved in 4-H and the Quincy Saddle Club when his daughter was at home and continued to support those organizations for many years.
Friends and Family are invited to Harvey's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.
