Hikaru Scott Nozawa, beloved Father, Ojiichan, Brother, artist, professional photographer, and brightest light of a man, passed away on December 21st 2021, in Chesterfield, MO surrounded by his loved ones. He was 81 years old. Scott's name, Hikaru, means "shining one" in Japanese. He truly embodied that name.
A man who brought joy to all who knew him,
Scott was born in 1940, to parents Misao "Mary" Nitta Nozawa and Tomotsu "Ralph" Nozawa in Stockton, CA.
Scott and his family were interned in the Japanese Internment Camp in Rohwer, AK during WWII. After the war, he and his family relocated to St. Louis MO, where he grew up in University City. Scott served our country and joined the US Air force serving as a radar operator. After his service, he discovered his passion for photography. He was a born photographer, as you could not be in a room with him without smiling. His bright smile and boisterous laughter was infectious.
Scott was a past member of APPI the Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois where he served as President on their board. He was also a past member of PPA Professional Photographers of America where he earned his Master of Photography. Scott owned and operated his business, Scott Nozawa Photography, with his partner and ex-wife Cynde Nozawa Watson for over 30 years. He was a member of the Quincy Rotary organization and served the community of Quincy IL.
Scott was an avid golfer and bowler. He earned a hole in one and his 300 ring. He was a major St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved to enjoy life, laugh, dance, be surrounded by family & friends and spread joy to others.
In later life he would spend his winters in Los Angeles where he would cherish time with his grandchildren, eat endless sushi, and enjoy "the good life".
Scott is survived by his beloved daughters, Karrie Kiyomi Nozawa Franchina and Kimi Kiyoko Nozawa. Also, his Brother Yasuto Don Nozawa, and sisters, Tamiko Nozawa & Yoshiko Nozawa Lesinski. Last but not least, his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Giuseppe Hikaru Franchina & Francesca Kiyomi Franchina.
We will celebrate and remember his life on Thursday December 30th, 2021, with a10:00 a.m. visitation, an 11:00am Memorial Service at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home, 11101 Saint Charles Rock Rd. St. Ann, MO 63074
