James OGILVIE Obituary

James Donald Ogilvie died at 2:20 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 5, 2010) in Blessing Hospital surrounded by his family and comforted by the love of God.

Jim was born on June 6, 1932, in Ann Arbor, Mich., and was the only son of Byron and Mary Graham Ogilvie.

Jim married Helen Zieba on Saturday, Sept. 3, 1955. She survives.

Jim graduated from Farmington High School in 1950, and served his country as an Army sergeant in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He received an associate degree from University of Missouri in 1956. Jim and his family lived in St. Louis, Macon and Poplar Bluff, Mo., before moving to Quincy in 1971.

Jim was employed by Knapheide Equipment Co. and retired from his sales position in 1998.

A Christian since his youth, Jim was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church. In his lifetime, he served God in numerous ways as a deacon, trustee, youth program leader, nursery worker, and on many committees.

Having inherited his father's coin collection, Jim developed his own interest in coins in recent years. He looked forward to attending local coin shows and coin club meetings with his friends. Jim also enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, reading, fishing, walking and especially spending time with his family.

Jim is also survived by three children and their spouses, Susan and John Moore of Quincy, Sandi and Todd Barlow of Bloomington, and Tom and Paula Ogilvie of Wildwood, Mo. Grandchildren include Molly and Andy Moore, and David, Grace and Sam Barlow. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Mike Zieba of St. Louis; his sisters-in law, Kathryn Tetley of Jefferson City, Mo., Charlene Zieba of Carbondale, and Karol Phelps of Carbondale; seven nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He will be fondly remembered by close friends, Tom and Kerry Dickerson and their children, Nathan, Kory and Kristen, Kami Irvin, Brian Langreder, and John Phelps.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother, Bertha "Tootsie" Lang Wellman Ogilvie.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Greg Andrews, Dr. Rishi Ghanekar and Linda Gilker, and the many physicians, nurses, patient care attendants and support personnel at Quincy Medical Group and Blessing Hospital. Their constant care and compassion supported Jim and his family in so many kind ways.

SERVICES: A celebration of Jim's life and the life everlasting in God is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday in Faith Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Rodney Bakker and the Rev. Kevin McGinnins. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. A private burial will be held in Sunset Cemetery.
