Jay "Bird" Wellman, age 53, of Fowler, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born December 28, 1968, in Quincy, the son of Donald and Sharon Bockenfeld Wellman.
He is survived by his parents, Don and Sharon of Quincy; one daughter, Abigail Hildebrand of Fowler; siblings, John (Linda) Wellman, Jodee (Steve) Wellman-Hollensteiner and Jeanette Wellman, all of Quincy; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joy Wellman.
Mr. Wellman attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame and Spoon River Community College. He worked for Ron's Tire for several years and was currently employed by Sharkey Transportation in Quincy, as a mechanic and tire man, since 2004. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Ducks Unlimited. Jay was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, gardening and raising his chickens. He was a lover of animals especially his dogs, Benny, Remington and Duke. Jay's pride and joy and the love of his life was his daughter, Abigail.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery or to the family for assistance with final expenses. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.
