Jean Shelor Lyle

Jean Shelor Lyle, 89, of Quincy, died 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at St. Vincent's Home.

Jean was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Houston, a daughter of Joseph and Alice Jackson Shelor. She married William R. Lyle on June 10, 1950, in Houston. He survives.

Jean was born and raised in Houston. She graduated from Stevens College in Columbia, Mo. She was a fourth generation quilter who turned her passion into a business. She did her first quilt show in Houston in 1975 and continued doing shows throughout the East Coast and Midwest until her retirement in 2013. She was among the first group who were awarded the designation of Certified Quilt Appraiser with the American Quilter Society (AQS). She loved pre-1940 quilts. She could be found most weekends at auctions around the Quincy area to obtain the quilts she sold. She expanded her business and was known for her English quilting needles and as a Featherweight Sewing Machine distributor.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a son, Joe (Penny) Lyle of Quincy; two daughters, Cindy (Jim) Davis of Tucson, Ariz., and Chris Johnston of Phoenix; five grandchildren, Adam Lyle, Jesse, Erik, and Dana Davis, and Brynn Kern; and two great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
