Dr. John H. Dust

John Dust Obituary

Dr. John H. Dust, 86, of Effingham, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday (April 1, 2009) in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He is the father of Alan Dust of Quincy. Born Feb. 21, 1923, in rural Effingham (Green Creek), he was the son of Rudolph and Theresa Heuerman Dust. He married Helen R. Holkenbrink on June 18, 1949. She died in 2006. Mr. Dust served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired veterinarian. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council No., 665, and the Effingham American Legion Post No. 120. Survivors include six sons, Pat (Maria) of Mattoon, Bob of Effingham, Maurice (Jane) of Edwards, Mark of Springfield, Alan (Merry) of Quincy and Brian of Effingham; six daughters, Connie (Preston) Barr of Effingham, Kathy (Stince) Barr of Effingham, Betsy (Mark) Schottman of Effingham, Teresa (Fred) Aydt of Nashville, and Joyce (Chris) Aydt of Edwardsville and Valerie (Tony) Kemme of Effingham; a daughter-in-law, Becky Dust of Effingham; one brother, Paul R. (Betty Ann) Dust of Effingham; two sisters, Della Blom of Altamont and Rose Hawickhorst of Teutopolis; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Bernard, and two sisters, Kate Fuesting and Theresa Petty. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Effingham. Burial with military rites will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. today in the Bauer Funeral Home, 1212 W. Evergreen Ave., Effingham. There will be a parish wake service at 6 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus service at 7 p.m. MEMORIALS: St. Anthony Schools. ARRANGEMENTS: Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham.
