Leroy Frazier Obituary

Leroy F. Frazier, 93, of Luray, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Clark County Nursing Home, Kahoka.

He was born March 31, 1923, near Luray, a son of Roy and Lula Cochenour Frazier.

He attended school in Luray, and, at the age of 14, moved from home to work for the CCC in Clark County. He was inducted in the U.S. Navy on July 21, 1943, and separated on Dec. 23, 1945. During this time he was married to Evelyn V. Hufford on June 4, 1942, at the Methodist parsonage in Kahoka. They were married 67 years until her death June 27, 2009.

Leroy was bound to the land and committed to raising his family on a farm. He was a hired hand for several farms, worked several other jobs, including Foote Mineral in Keokuk, until he was able to save up enough money to purchase the equipment he would need. From 1950 until the time he entered the Clark County Nursing Home, he was farming and caring for the livestock he owned and raised as well as for others.

In the meantime, Leroy was a loyal Democrat and former committee member together with his wife, Evelyn. He was a former board member of the Clark County Ambulance District, a member of St. Francisville Lodge 588, A.F. & A.M. at Wayland, and American Legion Post 1000 at Jefferson City. He had participated in the Honor Flight in August 2014.

Leroy loved to get out and work ground, bulldoze and check on the crops. His family was his greatest accomplishment.

Survivors include two sons, James Frazier of Luray, (Connie Baker of Quincy, Ill.), and Dennis L. (Beckie) Frazier of Kahoka; one daughter, Debbie (Frank) Carter of Crawfordsville, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Mike (Sandy) Frazier of Kahoka, David (Tricia) Frazier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jeff (Debbie) Frazier of Lindenhurst, Ill., Steve (Tori) Frazier of Danville, Iowa, Ron Frazier of Kansas City, Mo., Ryan (Teresa) Frazier and Denise Frazier, all of Kahoka, Kathy (Heath) Richmond of Ursa, Ill., and Tammy (David) Travis of Kansas City, Mo.; 20 great-grandchildren, Anthony (Tasha) Kerr, Cassie Kerr, Ross and Camille Frazier, Shane Gregory, Stephanie (Wes) Willey, Justina Frazier, Samantha Goble, Sydney, Ashley, Kaitlin, Kalie, Taegan, Ty, Alexa and Jackson Frazier, Kourtney and Kelson Richmond, and Wessyn and Shiloh Robinson; a great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Kerr; a dear friend, Kathy Frazier of Kahoka; three sisters, Viola Philp, Erma Jean Tate and Juanita Gray; sisters and brother-in-law, William and Marion Hufford of Revere and Darlene Albertson of Mesa, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
