Lucille Mary Orscheln, 93, of
Hannibal, MO passed away at 2:27 PM, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Loving Arms Memory Care and Assisted Living in Sedalia, MO, embraced and comforted by family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Hannibal, MO. Fr. Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in
Hannibal, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Lucille's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, September 29, 2023, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in
Hannibal, MO. There will be a Catholic prayer service at 4:30 PM at the funeral home.
Lucille was born August 30, 1930, in
Quincy, IL to Arthur H. Sibbing and Bertha M. Schlottman Sibbing.
She was married to Harold William Orscheln on June 10, 1950, at St. John's Catholic Church in
Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1995.
Survivors include her six children, Beverly M. Wilkerson (Charles) of Sedalia, MO, Mary E. Smith of
Hannibal, MO, Marcia K. Aegerter (Paul) of Kingwood, TX, Stephen H. Orscheln (Carolyn) of
Hannibal, MO, Barbara A. Torbett (Donald) of Tulsa, OK, and Arthur E. Orscheln (Vicki) of Lake Jackson, TX; 21 grandchildren, Jennifer Walker (Mark), Mark Wilkerson (Amy), John Wilkerson (Adrianne), Matthew Wilkerson (Teadora), Chet Smith (Joanie), Tiffany Culp (Charles), Andrea Blessing (Edward), Corinne LaValley (Brandon), Andrew Aegerter, Kristen Harms (Luke), Derek Aegerter (Andrea), Hannah Kuney (Kevin), Emily Redel (Jacob), Stephen "Adam" Orscheln (Ashley), Wayne Torbett, Kent Torbett, Neil Torbett (Elizabeth), Katherine Barta (Wesley), William Orscheln (Sarah), Alexander Orscheln, and Margaret Orscheln; 33 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ken Sibbing (Frannie); son-in-law, Leon B. Smith Jr. and granddaughter, Melissa Smith-McCutcheon
Lucille was a homemaker, loved raising her family, and was always there for them. Later in life Lucille served as secretary for St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in
Hannibal, MO for many years.
Faith and family were always central to Lucille's life. She was continually active in her faith community and at Holy Family Catholic Church. For many years Lucille and her husband Harold taught Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). They served as team leaders for Teens Encounter Christ (TEC), Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, and Residents Encounter Christ (REC) programs at the church. She was also a member of Council of Catholic Women (CCW) and PEO. Lucille loved to travel, especially a trip to Ireland, The Vatican, The Holy Land, visits to the beach, and trips with family. She was a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. Lucille and Harold enjoyed attending University of Missouri Tiger Football games. Her homemade vegetable soup was always a hit with her grandchildren. Lucille's caring spirit and gentle heart will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lucille was Catholic by faith and a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Recipient of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice conferred for distinguished service to the Catholic church.
Pallbearers will be Lucille's grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic School or Community Loving Care Hospice.
