Mary Catherine Hughes, age 66, of Quincy, died on Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living.
Mary was born on October 23, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Theron Rex and Anne Agee Hughes.
Mary and her family moved from Peoria to Highland, Indiana in August 1968. In January of 1975, the family moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin where Mary graduated from Bradford Senior High School on June 1, 1977.
In June of 1982, the Hughes family moved to Concordia, Kansas. After the retirement of her father in May of 1989, they moved to Quincy, Illinois. Mary enjoyed collecting little treasures from the various places she traveled, each one holding a special memory for her.
Mary helped in a day care while living in Concordia, Kansas. She was a camp counselor at Camp Webb in Wisconsin for 6 weeks during the summer of 1979. She was a camp counselor from 1983 through 1988 in Kansas at Camp Pecusa. She later served as a camp counselor at East Bay near Bloomington, Illinois in 1989, 1990 and 1991.
Mary has been a Red Cross volunteer since 2007. She organized a yearly group at St. John's Anglican Parish each summer to attend a Quincy Gems baseball game.
Survivors include three sisters: Jane (John) Derhake, Sarah (Mark) Cook, and Anne (Troy) Rupert, all of Quincy; four nieces: Ashley Miller, Amanda "Amy" Derhake, Emily (Ryan) Miller, and Megan (Bob) Eubanks; three nephews: Andrew "Drew" Blackwood, Brady Rupert, and Seth Rupert; five great nephews: Gavin, Nolan, and Clay Miller, Dax Blackwood, and Tripp Eubanks; a great niece, Brilee Blackwood; a step-niece, Stephanie (Mark) Cress; a great step-niece, Mackinze (Daniel) Sample; and a great-great step nephew, Zephyr Sample.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025 at St. John's Anglican Parish.
Services: 11:00 am at St. John's Anglican Parish with Rev. Patrick Smith officiating.
Burial: Adams-Dustin Cemetery, Atlas, IL
