Mary "Sue" Silver

1930 - 2016

Mary "Sue" Silver, 86, of Palmyra, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Silver was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Canton, to Aldo Clarence and Pansy Morton Harscher. She was married to William "Harold" Silver on July 5, 1947, in Hannibal. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2010.

Mrs. Silver worked at Mear's IGA for 33 years, retiring in 1995. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra, where she worked in the church nursery and was always by her husband's side as a Deacon's wife.

Sue enjoyed gatherings with her family. She was an extremely good seamstress, liked baking for family and friends, putting together puzzles, planting and caring for her flowers and reading, which was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed minding her hummingbirds, watching tennis and golf on television, and especially playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters, Carol S. (Del) Fessenden, Palmyra, Linda K. (Charlie) Saylor, Clinton, Tenn., Judy A. (Don) Fessenden, Palmyra, and Denise E. Clayton, Palmyra; sons, Darrell W. Silver, Palmyra, and Ray H. (Joni) Silver, Palmyra; sister, Ida Bernice Smith, Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Helen Anne Drennan, Hannibal; brother-in-law, Marvin D. Silver, Frankford; grandchildren, Cara Sue (Eric) Churchwell, Jody L. (Stacy) Hoerr, Sheridan R. (Shawn) Davis, Kerry W. Hevel Jr., Todd H. (Hillary) Fessenden, Nichole L. (Monty) Doyle, Darrell W. Silver II, Millicent A. Silver, Stacey R. Snodgrass, and Betsey A. (J.R.) Powell; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Aldo Harsher Jr., Jimmie Lee Harscher Sr. and Clarence Leroy Harscher; two sisters, Alma Jean Jackson and Myrtle "Gerri" Hirner; and three sons-in-law, Kerry Hevel Sr., Jerry F. Brueggeman and Steve Clayton.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra, with the Rev. Mark McPike and the Rev. Paul Reese conducting. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Palmyra. Casket bearers will be Todd H. Fessenden, Kerry Hevel Jr., Stacy D. Hoerr, Shawn Davis, Darrell W. Silver II and Monty Doyle.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: First Baptist Church or Greenwood Cemetery Association.

ARRANGEMENTS: Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.
