Merritt L. Trantor, age 88, of Quincy, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 3:17 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
He was born February 2, 1934 in Shelbina, Missouri the son of Roy V. Trantor and Nellie Irene Studer. On July 18, 1953 he married Frances A. Hildmann in Shelbina, Missouri.
He graduated from Shelbina High School in 1952. Merritt worked for Gardner-Denver for 40 years, until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Merritt always worked meticulously in his garden and on his lawn. He also loved playing the guitar, his harmonica, and playing dominos or Uno with his friends and family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family. Merritt and Frances always committed to visits with their friends and church community.
In addition to his wife, Merritt is survived by his daughter, Teena Jo Trantor Warner and her husband Jeff of Quincy; a son, Mark Eugene Trantor and his wife Dana of Fowler, Illinois; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Martin, Zachary (Lauren Fernandez) Warner, Brooke Trantor, and Bethany (Samantha Koscher) Trantor; a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Rash, of St. Charles, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harry James Trantor, and a sister, Bernice Maupin.
Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Hansen Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Josh Vahle officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
