Rosalie Jacobs, 97, of Quincy, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
Rosalie was born September 15, 1928, in Bowen, IL to Orin and Mabel (Thompson) Crossland. She was married to James W. Jacobs on June 17, 1948, at Bowen Methodist Church in Bowen, IL. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2024.
A graduate of Bowen Community High School in 1946, Rosalie's pursuit of education led her to Gem City Business College, where she honed her skills and met her beloved Jim. After completing her studies in 1947, she embarked on a career as a bookkeeper. With the birth of her first child, Rosalie embraced the role of homemaker and mother with unparalleled devotion. She was a pillar of support and guidance, actively participating in the Vermont Street United Methodist Church, the Ellington School PTA, and as a Cub Scout den mother.
As her sons grew, Rosalie returned to the workforce, demonstrating her expertise and work ethic as a bookkeeper once more. She retired from Quincy Farm and Home Supply in 1989, but her retirement was anything but idle. Rosalie dedicated countless hours to the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross, where she served during Hurricane Andrew and the Missouri/Illinois flood of 1993. Her commitment earned her the recognition of Volunteer of the Year in 2001. Additionally, she volunteered at Blessing Hospital for 15 years, bringing comfort and care to those in the ICU.
Rosalie's passions extended beyond her volunteer work. She was an avid collector of antiques, Hummels, and rocks, finding joy in the beauty and history of each piece. Her love for flowers was evident in her once extensive rose garden.
Survivors include her three sons, Ret. Army Col. Dr. Aaron J. Jacobs (Ret. Army Col. Jean) of San Antonio, TX, Lynn E. Jacobs (Connie) of Quincy, and Philip L. Jacobs (Sue Ellen) of Brookfield, IL; four grandchildren, Melissa Jacobs, Nicholas Jacobs (Danielle), Amanda Cole (Kevin), and Sarah Jacobs; and four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Abel, Liam, and Kayla.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Arlo Crossland, Maurice Crossland, and Dr. Merle Crossland; and two sisters, Gladys Koehsher and Edith Glosecki.
