RUSHVILLE, Ill. -- Rosina Baer Greenlee, 84, of Rushville, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (Jan. 26, 2015) at St. Vincent's Home, Quincy, after a long and hard fight with her health.
She was of true pioneer stock, being born on May 27, 1930, in Ipswich, S.D. She was a daughter, and 13th child of 14 children born to the late Leo and Theresa Schmidt Baer. She married Darrell Eugene Greenlee on Dec. 28, 1948, in Ipswich. Darrell passed away Jan. 6, 1986, in Quincy.
Darrell and Rosina came to Rushville in 1963 to build the Rushville Farmers Grain and Livestock Co.'s grain elevators. Loving the community, they decided to stay in Rushville where they could raise their daughters. They wanted to raise a good family with a name they could be proud of. So they stayed and established Greenlee Construction Company, which consisted of honest people who did business on a handshake.
Rosina was a loving wife and mother. She was very active in her church. She served as a trustee and secretary/treasurer of St. Rose Catholic Church. Rosina was the director of summer bible school, was the CCD coordinator and was the president of the Altar and Rosary Society. Rosina was very involved with the American Legion Auxiliary where she served on many committees and was past president. She served as an election judge for many years. Rosina also loved visiting and caring for many elderly in the community. She will always be remembered as an inspirational beacon of God's love.
Rosina's family was the most important thing to her. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Toland and Randy of Rushville, Rose Ann Liesen and James of Quincy, Karen McCombs and James of Rushville, Darlene Royalty and Randy of Ursa, and Connie Vermeire and Joe of Quincy; a son-in-law, Tony Busen of Mount Sterling; her grandchildren, Barb Rowland and Dave, Cathy Green and Darin, Angie Neese, Anne Gibleon and Clint, Darrell Liesen and Tina, Jane Cleaves and Joe, Emily Frank and Dan, Bonnie Busen, Katie Furkin and Jeff, Kelsey Busen, Rachel Bartoluzzi and AJ, Rebekah Wright and Steve, Brittany Vermeire, and Janell Vermeire; her great-grandchildren, Cole and Caleb Gilham, Nick Rowland and Camille, Josh Green and Bronagh, Daniel and Ryder Neese, Brock, Brenten, Chase and Hunter Gibleon, Jordyn Liesen, Palin Cleaves, Mary, Marcy and Mandy Frank, Dylon, Parker, Eden and Mabrie Furkin; her great-great-grandchildren, Raveigha Rowland, Kieran and Emelia Green; a brother, Leo "Jeep" Baer and Shirley; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Baer and Gladys Baer; a brother-in-law, Otis Bartholomew; and many nieces and nephews.
Rosina was preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Busen and Mary Ann Greenlee; granddaughters, Amber, Sandy and Sarah Royalty; brothers, Stan, Pete, Andrew "Sub" Baer and one infant brother; and sisters, Ann Benfit and Joe, Josephine Cihak and Leo, Catherine Semmler and Ruben, Mary Uttenhove and Art, Veronica Gisi and Albert, Elizabeth Baer, and two infant sisters.
SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. Rose Catholic Church, Rushville, with the Rev. Anthony Bernas officiating. Interment will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Worthington Funeral Home, with a prayer service held at the conclusion.
