Sandra Rosalie Batista (nee Bridgeman, fka Earley), 84, of Midlothian, Virginia, died peacefully on November 22, 2025 at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, surrounded by family and love.
Sandy was born on June 8, 1941, in Quincy, Illinois, and she was a 1959 graduate of Quincy High School. As a teenager, she was actively involved as a drum and bugle corps member in Quincy, earning awards at many competitions. She met and married her first husband, Gary R. Earley (predeceased) and moved to Avon Lake, Ohio, where she raised her family and worked for nearly 20 years with P.C. Campana Inc. in Lorain, Ohio. Sandy was also an avid bowler, and she enjoyed golf, travel, and visiting casinos.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine (Jigme Goenpo "G" Dorji) Szabo and son, Steven (Jennifer) Earley; grandchildren, Erin (Andy McDaniel) Szabo, Emily Szabo, Colin (Caroline) Szabo, Paul (Shruthi Murali) Szabo, Megan Earley, Scott Earley, Quinn Dorji, Sybil Dorji, and Jimmy Dorji; great-grandchildren, EV and Xander McDaniel; step-daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Beninga and family, step-daughter, Claire (Betsy Kenniston) Batista, step-son, Bruce (Melissa) Batista and family, and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews across the entire country. Sandy was lovingly known as Grandma B (for Batista) to all of her grandkids, which was a nice tribute to her mother, who was also called Grandma B (for Bridgeman) by much of the family.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Daniel Batista; her parents Edith Bridgeman and Cecil Bridgeman; sister Carlene (Wayne) Whitefield, and six brothers: Loren "Bud" Bridgeman, Floyd Bridgeman, Everett (Rosalie) Bridgeman, Glenn (Donna) Bridgeman, Wayne Bridgeman, and Paul (Betty) Bridgeman.
There will be no memorial services held immediately. A celebration of life will be held privately with Sandy's family at a later date. Sandy will be buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois, alongside her mother and siblings.
