Sandra Louise (Thorn) Johnson, 82 of Carthage, IL passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL. Sandra was born on November 2, 1943, in Unionville, MO. She was the daughter of John and Ada (Shrake) Thorn. She married Marvin Tjark Johnson May 25, 1963, in Keokuk, IA.
Sandra attended Kahoka High School before marrying and becoming a mother. As her children got older, she entered the work force at various times. She worked at the Dennis factory in Augusta, IL. After its closure she studied and worked as a CNA at local nursing homes and as a traveling CNA for the Hancock County Health Department for at homecare. This job she truly loved as it allowed her to meet many interesting people around the county and allowed them to have the dignity to stay at their homes as they aged.
In her free time Sandra spent time working on crochet projects, word finds, coloring, and sewing. Her favorite was crochet. She went through many skeins of yarn making anything from lap robes, blankets, baby clothes, and slippers. Items made with love that her family will cherish.
Sandra loved to visit with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of their pets. She was always sassy, funny and loving. She was skilled at easing the mood of any situation with her wit and charm.
Sandra was a member of the Browning Chapter of the O.E.S at Denver, IL.
She is survived by three children, Anthony Tjark (Wendy) Johnson of Bellevue, NE., Sheila Louise (Ben) Spellman of Chehalis, WA., and Thomas Tjark (Michelle) Johnson of Carthage, IL; one brother, Jerry Thorn of Revere, MO; four grandchildren, Annette (Trevor) Lolley, Angela Johnson, Max Johnson and Claire Johnson; four great- grandchildren, Charlotte Lolley, Lincoln Lolley, Abraham Johnson and Trinidad Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Gene Thorn, and a granddaughter.
Sandra enjoyed receiving meals from Meals on Wheels. It was a highlight in her day to visit with the individuals who delivered the meals. She made donations to this great cause. If you would like to make a donation, in Sandra's name, to Meals on Wheels for Hancock County and West Central Illinois please contact Carrie Dyel, Director at 217-592-3667 or West Central Illinois Nutrition Project – Meals on Wheels donation page: https://mtyc.co/2iai8g.
