MENDON, Ill. -- Thomas J. Kuhn, 74, of 2144 E. 1150th St., Mendon, died Friday (Aug. 5, 2011) in St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Tom was born April 17, 1937, in Quincy, a son of Albert E. and Genevieve A. Ohnemus Kuhn. He married Barbara A. Tournear on Nov. 24, 1962, in St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty, and she survives.

Tom was a lifelong dairy farmer and was owner-operator of a can milk route for four and a half years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962, stationed in Germany.  He attended St. Francis Catholic Church. Tom was a charter member of the Adams County Olde Tyme Association, and was in attendance at its organizational meeting. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Adams County Farm Bureau, Mississippi Valley Holstein Club and the Holstein Association of the USA.

He enjoyed and was proud to breed and market Registered Holstein Bulls, selling over 300 bulls, most of them to repeat customers. Tom exhibited Registered Holsteins with his family for 61 years at the Adams County Fair. Tom had also exhibited Registered Shropshire Sheep, Registered Spotted Poland China Hogs and New Zealand White Rabbits with his family at various local and state competitions. Tom was a dedicated and lifelong supporter of Catholic schools and education. He was one of the original WTAD rain gauge reporters, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Tom was an International Harvester enthusiast, especially proud of his 1954 Super H and he had a large and unique collection of antique dairy memorabilia.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, survivors also include his eight children, Myra Kuhn of Quincy, Melvin Kuhn of Sioux Falls, S.D., Marvin and Myron Kuhn, both of Mendon, Anaise (Derek) England of Edina, Mo., Bob Kuhn of Springfield, and Matthew T. and Aaron Kuhn, both of Mendon; three grandsons, Thomas, Daniel and John England of Edina; brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Sorrill, Ruth (Leo) Zanger, Martha (Dewey) Tuley, all of Quincy, Eugene (Joan) Kuhn of Ursa and Rachel (Bob) Askins of Quincy; his mother-in-law, Mildred Tournear of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
