Tommie Miller Obituary

PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Tommie D. Miller, 69, of Pittsfield, died Friday (Sept. 4, 2009) in his home. He was born March 26, 1940, near Pleasant Hill, a son of the late Howard Oliver and Ruby May Smith Miller. He married Marla Hammond of La Porte, Ind., and to this union three children were born, two daughters, Pamela Sue Hollenbaugh and husband Scott of Bremen, Ind. and Tamera Lynn Oudhius and husband George of Rolling Prairie, Ind. and Dale Miller and friend Vicky St. John of Grainger, Ind. He later married Jody Hull on Dec. 11, 1987, in Pittsfield. She survives. In addition to his children and wife, he is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rachel, Ben, and Abby Miller and Hayden and Jordan Hollenbaugh and Ben and Christine Oudhius, all of Indiana; three brothers, William L. "Bill" Miller of Rockport, Ill., Ray Burdette "Jack" Miller and wife Roberta of Houston, Texas, and Otto Glen "Dude" Miller of Dickenson, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Richard Myron "Dick" Miller, Paul Dean Miller, and Peter Howard "Bug" Miller. Tommie was a 1958 graduate of Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield. He joined the United States Navy following school and while in the Navy becoming a radar technician stationed aboard the U.S.S. Des Moines, and before his honorable discharge, in France. Following the service, he became a brick mason, working in Indiana Houston, Texas, Missouri, Alaska, and recently locally in Pike County, Ill. Tommie was a member of the V.F.W. and a member of the Dickenson Texas American Legion, member of New Salem Masonic Lodge, Western Illinois Tractor Club, Trike Riders International, GWRRA (Goldwing Road Riders Association) and the Brick Masonry & Cement Finishers Local in Jacksonville. Tommie's hobbies include go-karting, collecting tools, tractors, old cars and trucks, old toys, antiques and riding his trike. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will be private. VISITATION: 4-8 today in the funeral home.
