William D. Parn

William D. Parn, 89, of Clayton, died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday (April 29, 2008) in Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. Born Oct. 30, 1918, in Quincy, Mr. Parn was a son of August and Mattie Lierle Parn. He married Edna M. Goertz on July 23, 1940, in Keosauqua, Iowa. She died May 26, 2004. Mr. Parn was a self-employed truck driver for several years and also worked as a farmer. He enjoyed pulling horses and playing music, especially the fiddle, which he played at numerous nursing homes every month for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Kindhart and her husband, Carlos, of Clayton; a son, Lyle Parn and his wife, Vickie, of Liberty; and a daughter, Ruth Duvall and her husband, Dale, of Quincy; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Parn was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Graham. Burial will be in Nations Cemetery, near Liberty. VISITATION: 10 a.m. until time of services Friday in the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Good Samaritan Home.
