William J. Postle, 74, of Quincy, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 27 in his home at The Arbors in Quincy, Illinois.
Bill was born May 8, 1951 at St. Mary's Hospital in Quincy, IL, a son to William Howard Postle and Helen Terwelp Postle. He graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1969, was a biology major at Quincy College before graduating with honors from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in Chicago in 1976. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Si Pharmacy Honor Fraternity.
Bill met his wife of 51 years, Bernadette Osinski, at Quincy College in 1970. They were married on August 25, 1974, in Chicago, IL, and they returned to Quincy in 1976. Daughters Sarah and Becky were born in 1980 and 1981.
Bill began his professional career at Riley's Drug Store in Quincy in 1976-the start of a 43-year-long vocation in pharmacy and patient care. After working at Super-X and Earl and Buss drug stores, he took a position at Denman Pharmacy services in 1993, functioning primarily as a nursing home pharmacy consultant for Good Samaritan Home in Quincy and Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, IL. He also periodically served as consultant throughout Illinois and Missouri for facilities including St. Vincent's Home, Brighton Pavilion, Sunset Home, Timber Point Healthcare, Wesley Village, North Adams Home, Pittsfield Manor, Willow Care, and Clark County Nursing Home. In 2003, Bill took a job as staff pharmacist at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL, becoming Pharmacist-In-Charge just one year later. After 14 years of service, he retired in 2017 from the Illinois Veterans Home.
Bill joined the Catholic Church in Chicago in 1974, and upon his return to Quincy, became a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was profoundly faithful and he deeply valued his relationship with God. Bill considered his family his greatest blessing, and raising his daughters was the highlight of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting, but his favorite activity was tennis. He was a member of the Quincy Racket Club and played doubles tennis in a number of club tournaments and city events. As a staunch conservative, Bill was particularly fond of writing letters to the editor of the Quincy Herald Whig, challenging political commentary on local and national issues alike. Writing became his pastime in retirement, and what began as a means of capturing all the stories of his childhood-his bedtime stories to his daughters-became a 600 page memoir and chronicle of his family's history.
In addition to his wife, Bernadette (Bernie), Bill is survived by his sister Suzanne Parker, his daughter Sarah Reilly, her husband Bret Reilly, and his grandchildren Cavan, Deacon, Emma, Greyson, and Arlin. Bill is now reunited with his beloved daughter, Becky Bliefnick, who preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
