William "Bill" Ryther passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 16th, 2023, at the age of 86. Bill was the beloved husband of 65 years to Carol Jean Ryther [nee Peter]; cherished father of Sarah [Tony] Carlson, Nancy [Bill] Smith, and Kelly[Ron] Shader; dear grandfather of Tamara Marraffa, Amber [Jimmy] Tolias, Jami [Jake] Lucas, Craig [Savannah] Smith, Brandi [Garrett] Hallemeier, and Madisyn Shader; Beloved great-grandfather of Jaelyn Marraffa, Austen Suess, Acacia Marraffa, Dominic Tolias, Anthony Henry, Frankie Marraffa, Cole Lucas, Ethan Marraffa, Paisley Smith, Cora Hallemeier, Robbie Hallemeier, Aspen Tolias, Amelia Lucas, Sienna Smith; cherished great-great grandfather of Octavia Marraffa; loving son of the late Earl and Nellie Ryther; Dear brother-in-law of Zelma Peter and friend of many.
Bill was a retired computer programmer where he spent 22 years working for Gardner Denver in Quincy, IL until he moved to St. Charles to work for Mosby Publishing for another 20 years.
After retirement in 2001, he became a volunteer with the St. Joachim & Ann Care Service where he was a longtime member of the church. Since the church was a big part of his life, he and his wife hosted various gatherings in their home one being the annual New Years Eve party. They were also members of the monthly "JASSS" group (Joachim & Ann Senior, Socializing and Servicing). When he was not volunteering Bill loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, his favorite part being the holiday gatherings.
Friends will be received Thursday, July 20th from 4 to 7pm in the Hutchens-Stygar Funeral Home., 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr 63304. Mass will be held Friday, July 21st at 10am at St Joachim & Ann Catholic Church Burial to follow in Quincy, Illinois at Calvary Cemetery.,1730 N. 18th St Quincy IL, 62301.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joachim & Ann Care Service or Leukemia Society.
