Lawrence Warren "Larry" King, 78, of Searcy, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He was born March 28, 1947 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Roy and Georgia (Warren) King. After high school, Larry joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country for 4 years; including a tour in Vietnam.
After his military service, Larry earned a double master's degree and gained employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Little Rock. He retired as a regulatory accountant in 1996 after 25 years of service to the company.
Larry's ever present desire to serve others later led him into a career in funeral service. He earned his funeral director's license in the early 2000's and became associated with McEuen Funeral Home in Searcy for a short time and later Powell Funeral Homes in Searcy and Bald Knob. He served as funeral director and staff accountant for the funeral homes until failing health forced him to retire. Larry treasured his role in funeral service and found great satisfaction in assisting others during their difficulties.
Larry's love for the Lord was paramount and evident in his daily life. He served for a number of years as Treasurer at Valley Baptist Church in Searcy, as Deacon and headed three building projects for the church. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and took great pride in studying and preparing for class. He was presently a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Gloria King; sister-in-law, Priscilla Freeman' brother-in-law, Bill Lafferty and his beloved dog, Millie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his many doggie companions, Gretchen, Ginger, Sassy, Sprout, Maggie, Quincy and Angel and his cat, Willie. (Larry had a huge heart for animals).
Visitation was held March 29 at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 30, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Thomas and Bro. Keith Lunceford officiating. Cremation will follow.
