George "Rod" Schroeder
Born: August 5, 1934 in Dubuque, IA
Died: April 10, 2023 in Polo, IL
GEORGE "ROD" SCHROEDER, 88, of Polo Rehab and Healthcare Center in Polo, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL and Morningside in Sterling, IL, died Monday, April 10, 2023 at Polo Rehab Center.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown, officiated by Rev. Father David Reese. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 14th, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown. Interment will be at a later date at the Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, IL. A memorial has been established to the Henry C. Adams Memorial Library in Prophetstown.
Rod was born August 5, 1934, in Dubuque, IA to Colin E. and Alice C. (Carroll) Schroeder. He was a 1952 graduate of the Dixon High School and received a Bachelor's of Industrial Education Degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign. On February 5, 1955 he married Sue A. Gardner in Chaffee, AR. She died on September 11, 2015. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Rod taught industrial arts at Prophetstown High School for 30 years. During the summers and following his retirement he worked as a draftsman and technician for Willett Hofmann and Associates in Dixon. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown, the IL Education Association and the National Education Association. He was a member and past president of the board of trustees at the Henry C. Adams Memorial Library and a member of the Prophetstown American Legion Post #522. Rod was an avid woodworker, enjoyed playing poker with his friends and enjoyed cars – especially Fords. He also enjoyed NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs and he was an avid weather tracker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Diana) Schroeder of Fayetteville, PA and Thomas (Jacque) Schroeder of Sterling, IL; two daughters, MaryBeth (Lynn) Landherr of Lanark, IL and Julie (Ted) Schroeder-Ranz of Sterling, IL; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; four step great great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas (Karen) Schroeder of Laguna Niguel, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue; one daughter, Kathryn Alice Schroeder; one brother, James Schroeder.
