Allen Cagle Obituary
July 1943 - Dec. 6, 2021 Beloved brother and uncle Allen B. Cagle, M.D., passed away in Medford, Oregon, on December 6, 2021, after a recent diagnosis of acute myelogenous leukemia. Allen was born to Calvin and Inga Cagle in Whittier, California in July 1943. When he was seven, the family moved to the oilfields of rural Kern County. Allen received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1965, and his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1969. He completed his internship and residency in pathology at Harbor General Hospital (now Harbor-UCLA) in Torrance before joining the pathology department at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and PLOW (Pathology Laboratory of Whittier) in 1973. Allen retired from PIH in June, 1998. As part of his responsibilities, Dr. Cagle oversaw the PIH Blood Donor Center; he was himself a resolute blood donor and he estimated that over his lifetime he gave perhaps forty units of whole blood and twenty units of platelets. Over the years, Allen sang many supporting roles with the Downey Civic Light Opera, and was also involved with Musical Theater West. He was a tenor with the William Hall Chorale, performing with them internationally in Australia and Russia. He sang in the choir at Bayshore Church in Long Beach and served as the church treasurer. He was also an accomplished photographer. Upon his retirement, he traveled extensively to photography workshops to further refine his skills. His photographs have brought joy to many homes. After his retirement, Allen became active in the arts community in Whittier, serving on the Cultural Arts Commission 2007-2011 and the Art in Public Places Committee 2003-2011. In 2018, Allen moved from Whittier, his home of forty-five years, to Santa Rosa, California, and eventually to Medford, Oregon - a sacrifice he made to be close to family. Allen is pre-deceased by his parents, Calvin and Inga Cagle. He is survived by his sisters Frances Sinclair and Sharon McCorkle; his niece Valorie Stillwell (Bill); his nephew Mike Sinclair (Cheryl); three grand-nephews: Nick Sinclair (Brooke), Kyle Sinclair (Melanie), Brad Sinclair (Anna); great-grand-nephew Scout Sinclair; and extended family members Bryan and Jenn‚te Rosales and Nicole Angone. If you wish to remember Allen in a tangible way, please donate to the arts organization of your choice. If you are able, please become a blood or platelet donor. A memorial service in Southern California is tentatively planned for the Summer of 2022.
