Tanny Tan Obituary

TAN-Tanny Tan, (Kok Joon Tan) 86, Patriach of one of the very first Chinese families to settle in Whittier in 1956 when wife, Colleen Tan joined the faculty at Whittier High School. Born in Singapore, Tanny received his BA in Business from Indiana University where he played Division 1 NCAA soccer and helped lead Indiana to the Big Ten. Conference championship (1950) Tanny was an importer of wholesale products from Asia who formed Cheong Shin g and Hong Won Companies whose largest clinets included Savon-Drug stores, Thrifty Drug stores and Fedco. Tanny was an avid golfer, bowler and saltwater fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Colleen, his sons Larry ( a local Whittier Attorney) and Lance (Rand Corporation), daughter-in-law Maureen (Bond trading specialist) and grandson Tyler, currently a junior at UC Davis. Services are Monday, March 9th at 1:30pm at White-Emerson Mortuary.

Colleen, Larry and Lance:
Richard and I were sorry to hear of Tanny's passing. He was truly a fixture in the neighborhood. We hope all is well with you.

Colleen and family, My sincerest condolences during your time of grief. I know how close you were as a family and the loss of Tanny/Dad/Grandpa must be devastating. May you find comfort in the many good wishes from friends and family and in the wonderful memories you share. My sympathy is with you at this most difficult time.
