William Wallace Obituary

William M. Wallace, 86, of Acton and a South Boston native, died Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice A. (Pecukonis) Wallace, to whom he was married for 40 years at the time of her death in 1995. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John J. and Annie (King) Wallace, and was predeceased by his sister, Mary. Mr. Wallace was raised in South Boston and served honorably during WWII in the Pacific Theatre aboard the submarine chaser, USS Carmi. An Acton resident since 1968, Mr. Wallace was employed as an inventory manager for an automobile parts wholesaler before retiring. Brought up during the Great Depression, Mr. Wallace had an independent, "can do" spirit and the know-how to maintain his home and cars. He was a family man who enjoyed the simple things in life and loved time spent with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters, Anne Ross and husband Steve of Grafton, MA, and Ellen McSurdy and husband James of Andover; and five grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Friday, June 7th from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 8th at 10:30am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Central Street, West Acton.

I've known Bill for the almost six years I've worked at the Acton Council on Aging and will miss him dearly. He was a long-term (and incredibly dependable) volunteer and never expected any recognition for how much he helped others. He carried himself with such grace and kindness.

For years I've witnessed Mr. Wallace lovingly tend to his wife's grave in the Mt. Hope Cemetary. May the couple be happily reunited in heaven. God bless.
