Glenys Mitchell died peacefully at her home in Brattleboro, VT on July 12, 2013. She was born on June 16, 1920 in Birkenhead, England. She worked at the British post office for 7 years during WWII and married Kingsley W. Mitchell in 1943. They immigrated to Canada in 1953 and then to the U.S., also lived in Cuba for 2 years. After living in NJ for a few years they eventually settled in MA. Glenys was active in the Congregational church in Holliston, MA for many years and later in churches in Bourne and Sandwich. She was known for her homemade marmalade and apple pies. She also volunteered at the Womens Correctional Institute in Framingham, Meals on Wheels and the Fish organization. Glenys spent many happy hours working in her flower garden and knitting sweaters and mittens. She also loved being with her grandchildren. Full of compassion and fun loving, one could always count on her to bring levity to a situation. Glenys is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kingsley, as well as 3 daughters; Anne Hann (Francis), of Sutton, MA; Lorna Mitchell of Brattleboro, VT; and Janet Piateski (James) of Damascus, MD. She had many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In lieu of Flowers please consider a donation to the Brattleboro Area Hospice. They do an incredible job and the family couldnt have done it without them. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Centre Congregational Church, Brattleboro, VT.
