Avril M. Ellenport
Avril Mary (Lamb) Ellenport died peacefully at home on April 4, 2021 after a long illness at 80 years of age. She is survived by her husband Sam Ellenport, her brother Richard Percy, her two sons Richard and Thomas Lamb, and beloved grandchildren Vivian, Celeste, Gillian, and Benjamin. Born in London, Avril grew up in St. Mary's Platt in Kent, England. After graduating Stockwell College in Bromley, she became a teacher. Avril married Derek Lamb; they had two sons. They divorced in Cambridge, Mass., where Derek taught at Harvard. While living in Belmont she met Sam whom she married in 1981; they bought their home here in 1983. Avril also worked at BB&N in Admissions. Avril had a green thumb, created a lovely garden, and was an avid Garden Club member. She also was a dedicated tennis player and sometime officer of the Belmont Tennis Club. She was committed to the League of Women Voters and served as Secretary. Avril's gift was her grace with people. She saw the bright side of things with a generosity of spirit and dry English humor. She and Sam returned yearly to London to visit family and friends, and enjoyed walking in the English countryside. The family plans a private Memorial tribute later this year. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Avrils memory to Cure Alzheimers Fund, 34 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02481 would be appreciated.

Avril was the sister of my best friend, Mike, here in Kent, England. During the past forty years we have spent many hours with Avril & Sam. Mike, regrettably, passed away 5 years ago but we have maintained regular contact with Avril and Sam across the pond. We built a close friendship which we hope will be maintained with Sam.

Avril was quick-witted, funny, kind, generous and great fun to be with. Avril & Sam invited us to come and stay with them for a week in Boston several years ago. Sam was working but Avril spent much time taking us around all the historic sites in the area. She was a mine of information. They also took us to Maine where we spent a weekend walking the wonderful, flat, sandy beaches, eating lobster, drinking superb wine and chatting incessantly. We have a large picture hanging in our bathroom which, daily, reminds us of that special time.

Avril & Sam came to Kent regularly and, in later years, Avril would stay with us while Sam visited a bookbinding friend in London. It was wonderful to reminisce about the times spent with Mike. On their last visit before Avril's diagnosis she wanted to see fields of bluebells (which grow here but not in the US) that reminded her of her childhood in England. We visited Nole Park Gardens in Rolvenden, Kent where she sat, with Sam, posing for photos! They looked wonderful together.

We miss Avril greatly. We hope that Mike is taking care of his little sister - as he has always done!

Avril Ellenport was one of the sweetest, smartest people I know. From the moment we met in 2008, I was taken with her smile, her winning sense of humor and her kindness. She was always warm, loving and accessible - and that sharp wit! These wonderful traits were tempered by her great humility. You could feel all of these qualities just by being in her presence. One memory I will always keep in my heart is the family celebration in Bermuda, which Sam planned in honor of Avril’s 70th birthday. It was a glorious event and, during that week, I had the extra good fortune to take a long walk on the beach with Avril and a friend of hers - quality time together that I will always remember. I am also forever grateful for the occasions Bob Ellenport (Sam’s brother and my partner) and I had to meet with Avril and Sam for dinners, for theatre, or a weekend away. Life is very precious and time Is very short. I count my blessings for these heartfelt memories with Avril.
