Bruno Battochi Obituary

Bruno P. Battochi, 89, a former Rockland County resident, died Aug. 7, 2012, at Preakness Healthcare Center in Wayne, N.J.

He was born Dec. 26, 1922.

Bruno was very active in the Rockland County Farm Bureau for eight years, serving as chairman for six of those years. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Hillcrest for many years. Bruno also was elected as a trustee on the Ramapo No. 2 School Board in 1955. He established Remsen Farms Inc. in Monsey in September 1970 and operated it with some of his family until 1997. He was a farmer for more than 55 years.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen Strickland Battochi; two sons, Gregory P. Battochi of Pomona and James A. Battochi of Wesley Hills; a daughter, Loretta Battochi Horenstein of New City; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite Cheeseman, who died June 2, 2011; two brothers, Louis and Reno; and two sisters, Rose and Mamie.

A funeral Mass was offered Aug. 10 at St. Boniface Church in Wesley Hills, and he was buried at Brick Church Cemetery in New Hempstead.

Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, in Suffern, handled the funeral arrangements.
