Elizabeth Yearing

Elizabeth Hyde Yearing, 97, died peacefully on December 23, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, August Yearing, her sister, Mary Saunders, and her two brothers James Hyde and Edward B Hyde III. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Yearing Scarborough and husband, James of Earleville, MD, her daughter, Joan E. McFadden of South Orleans, MA, her nieces Beth Smith, Cindy Prince, Marilou Prince and her nephews Jeffrey Yearing and Wesley Prince. She was the proud grandmother of Michael Scarborough and his wife Heather, Rebecca Scarborough, and Devon McFadden. Elizabeth was born to Edward and Mary Ethel Hyde Jr. on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. She grew up in Flushing, NY. She graduated from Bayside High School and Bucknell University (1943) where she was an active member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She and her husband raised their two children in Glen Rock, NJ. While vacationing, they fell in love with Cape Cod and worked hard to build their dream retirement home. They loved to entertain and had a huge social circle who loved to come to their cocktail parties. She was active in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, MA, All Saints Church in Glen Rock, NJ, Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary and Snow Library Board. Known for her warm, cheerful smile, she was dedicated to her family and ever-expanding circle of friends. She was never happier than when she was sewing, cooking, baking or making you feel better. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and important. Her family thanks the staff of The Terraces and Broadreach Hospice for making it possible to fulfill her wish to stay in her home to the end. A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, MA on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00am.
