Patricia Flor
1939 - 2021
Patricia Nickerson Flor, born March 14, 1939 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, died peacefully in her home in Tamarac, Florida on March 30th, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family and a community of friends. Ms. Flor loved her family very much and cared deeply about people. Daughter of Agnes Gonsalves and Manuel Ornellas Flor, she spent her early years on Shaw street in New Bedford and had fond memories of her childhood there and days spent with her dear grandmother, Avo. Pat Flor graduated from New Bedford High School in 1956 and then worked as a secretary at Revere Copper and Brass. She moved to Cape Cod in 1963, when she married Thomas Brewer Nickerson, and resided in Orleans for thirty years. In 1993 she relocated to San Diego, CA to help care for dear friends there. She had twelve wonderful years in San Diego, and in 2005 returned to the east coast to be closer to family and moved to Tamarac, Florida. Pat loved the arts, especially music, singing and dancing, movies, and the theater. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing, photography and nature. Provincetown held a special place in her heart. She cherished walks at dawn along Provincetown harbor during the summer weekends she spent in a family cottage on Commercial Street. She also cherished her time at Nauset Beach in Orleans, and the many days she spent enjoying the museums, performing arts, and gardens in Balboa Park. A kind, caring, and generous spirit, Pat lived a life of service. She served as a Girl Scouts leader, volunteered at the American Heart Association, served in various capacities at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, and was as an advocate and counselor at Free Space in Orleans. She was active in Unity Church in San Diego. Most recently in her community in Florida, Pat was a Tamarac Library volunteer, a member of the Lime Bay Women's Club, an usher at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Coral Springs, and an active participant in the Senior Saints, Shepherd Group, Women's Bible Study and Episcopal Church Women (ECW) groups at St. Mary Magdalene. Pat Flor was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She spread joy, light and peace. She is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Manuel, and her former husband Thomas Brewer Nickerson. She is survived by her daughter Bethany Ann Nickerson and son in-law John Wagner of Washington, D.C.; her son Thomas Brewer Nickerson, Jr., and daughter in-law Jody Nickerson of Deerfield, Wisconsin; her grandchildren Anabel Grace Nickerson, Cole Thomas Nickerson, Arden Rose Nickerson, Calvin Nickerson Wagner and Nathan Nickerson Wagner; her sisters Dorothy Gatheral of Sunnyvale, California and Lorraine Lawrence (and Stuart) of New Bedford, Massachusetts; her nieces and nephews: Tracey, Mike, Ray, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Emma, Rene, Paige and Ava; and many cousins and friends she stayed in close touch with across the country. A service will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans in the fall. Memorial donations may be sent to American Cancer Society (, Church of the Holy Spirit (204 Monument Road, Orleans, MA 02653), St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church (1400 Riverside Dr, Coral Springs, FL 33071), or to a charity of one's choice.

Pat was a loving person who always had a smile on her face. Pat loved all the activities at our church and always was willing to help set up and clean up. Pat I will miss you and loved that we texted a few times a week after the Covid virus because we could no longer get together .
