Catherine Weigel Obituary

Catherine Lenore Weigel (95) of Topsfield passed away quietly on July 8th. Beloved wife of the late John G. Weigel III and devoted and loving mother to daughter Constance Shelanskey and son John G. Weigel IV. Catherine lived a vigorous and full life. She was an avid gardener and outdoorswoman. She enjoyed sailing and cruising the coast of New England, cross country and downhill skiing, camping and birdwatching. Later in life she became an enthusiastic tennis player. Catherine was blessed with a lovely soprano voice and sang with numerous church choirs as the soloist. Her lifelong love of classical music, particularly opera, was a constant source of pleasure for her. Catherine loved history and had an extensive library of books covering all periods from ancient to modern times. She was a world traveler and visited many countries in Europe, the Far East, and North Africa. After her husbands retirement they made several trips to the west following the trail of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Catherine was involved with the League of Women Voters and for many years was the President of the Womens Fellowship at the Congregational Church of Topsfield. In addition to her daughter Constance Shelanskey and her husband Robert and her son John G. Weigel, IV and his wife Linda Smith, she is survived by her brother Charles Carroll and his wife Rose, grandchildren Heidi Kibler, Jeremy Snover, Susan Weigel and Leah Weigel.
