Katharine Knott Obituary

Katharine Cheshire Knott, born in Charleston, SC on September 3, 1928, died peacefully in Danvers, MA on Sunday, June 26, 2011. She grew up in Charlestown, SC where she went to the College of Charleston. Known to most as Katty, she loved her hometown and always returned there, even after her marriage to Amory Parker of Boston, and later to Dudley Knott of London, England. Everyone who met her was disarmed by her charm and her lively sense of humor. She was always there to entertain and cook for those she loved. She was a painter, a gifted flower arranger and the life of the party. Both husbands predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, John Cheshire of Panama City, her sister, Frankie Rhett of Charleston, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind three children: Frances de Lacvivier of Wenham, MA, Oliver Parker of Hamilton, MA and William Parker of Cambridge, MA as well as eleven grandchildren. They will all miss her. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 31 at 11 a.m. at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 705 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, MA. There will be a later memorial over Thanksgiving in Charleston, SC. Arrangements by the Campbell | Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beverly Bootstraps, 371 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915. Katy was quite a character. I enjoyed having tea with her, and her explaining that angel food cake was meant to be torn apart by hand!! My favorite memory of her was at the Rolling Stones concert when she insisted on leaving the plushly outfitted box so that we could hear the music and "feel" the crowd!! I have a vivid recollection of her dancing on the stairs in Gillette stadium to Mick Jagger singing "Brown Sugar"!! She was an amazing woman! Love to all, Lisa. Alexandra, and Robert Gardiner
