Dr. Kenneth Gregg

1938 - 2014

Dr. Kenneth Kit W. Gregg, 75, of South Hamilton died in the evening of Monday, August 11, 2014 in the Brigham and Womens Hospital, Boston. He was born in Cambridge on November 28, 1938, son of late Ward Irving Gregg and Edith E. (Webster) Gregg formerly of Milton. He was the great, great, grandson of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Kit was the youngest of three brothers. He attended Shady Hill School, Milton Academy and went on to attend Harvard University, graduating in 1961 and Tufts Medical School, graduating in 1965. The following five years were spent as an intern and resident to become an Orthopedic surgeon. He married Judy F. G. Hanning, formerly of Winchester, England in Woodstock VT on May 25, 1968. He met her as they worked together at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, NH. Dr. Gregg entered the Army as a Major spending the first year at the Walson Army Hospital in New Jersey and the second year he served in the US Armys 95th Evacuation Hospital in South Viet Nam for which he was awarded a Bronze star. In 1972 he and his wife moved to Hamilton with their two children, James and Jill, to practice Orthopedic Surgery at Beverly Hospital from which he retired in 1998. Kit enjoyed traveling, singing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a face many knew throughout the community. Kit volunteered with Health Volunteers Overseas which he provided surgical services in Umtata in Transkei, South Africa. He was an enthusiastic member of the North Shore Chorus and was a tremendous athlete. He loved to ski, row, hike, sail and ride his bicycle and motorcycle. While attending Harvard his crew won the 1959 Grand Challenge Cup in Henley, England. One of his favorite hobbies was to design and race free-sailing model boats. In addition to his wife Judy of forty-six years, his son James W. Gregg and his wife Jennifer of Port Clyde, ME and daughter Gillian Morris and her husband Jeff of Newburyport, he is survived by four grandchildren, Hunter, Olga and Tatiana Gregg all of Port Clyde, ME, Lyndsay Morris of Newburyport and a brother, Thomas F. Gregg of Falmouth. He was the brother of the late Roger L. Gregg formerly of Milton. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, 23th of August in First Congregational Church of Hamilton, 624 Bay Road, Hamilton. All are respectfully welcomed.
