Stephen Pickul Obituary

Stephen F. Pickul, Jr. 69, of Centerville, MA caught the "outgoing tide" on Tuesday evening, March 27, surrounded by his loving family and beloved pointer Duchess. During his final days, Steve was tenderly cared for by numerous caregivers and especially those at the Hope Hospice McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. Born in Ipswich, MA on June 16, 1948, Steve learned the nuances of fishing the Ipswich River under the guidance of his father, Stephen F. Pickul, Sr. Those early endearing lessons spawned in him a life-long passion for fly-fishing. As a member of the Cape Cod Flyrodders and the Cape Cod Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Steve enjoyed the Cape's pristine waters and an abundance of friendships made along the way. A strong proponent of catch and release practices, Steve encouraged others by the manner in which he retrieved and, more importantly, ever so gently released the fish back into the water. As a REATOR on the Cape for over 35 years, Steve was devoted to the efficacy of his profession, working creatively and tirelessly with colleagues and clients, most recently as a Senior Sales Associate of Shoreland Realty Group in Hyannis. Steve was a graduate of Boston College, a Master Gardener, and a caregiver at the May Institute. He attended Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville and Our Lady of Assumption Church in Osterville where he was a member of the church's Men's Spiritual Prayer Group. Steve also served as the former secretary for The Beginning Hope Nar-Anon Family Group at St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth. Steve was an avid reader and writer, and in addition to fishing, he enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and just being outdoors. He loved to co- ok for fam ily and friends, and his stuffed quahogs, baked scrod, and Italian dishes were second to none. Steve was the eldest of six children born to Teresa (Crosti) Pickul and her late husband Stephen F. Pickul, Sr. of Ipswich. Steve will be forever in the loving embrace of his sisters Joanne Harder of Topsfield and Patricia Dupray of Rowley, his brothers Joseph and Jeffrey of Ipswich, and David of North Andover, and their spouses, partners, children, and grandchildren. Steve will rise blessed in knowing how his life touched the heart of his son Timothy Stephen Pickul of Weymouth, daughter Sarah Anne St. George of Boston, and his loving wife of 32 years Mary Ellen St. George. He will be thoughtfully remembered by many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who were so dear. A funeral Mass for Steve will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Avenue, Osterville. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Steve to either Cape Cod Flyrodders (c/o Vinny Foti, Club Treasurer), 21 Hinkley Pond Road, South Dennis, MA 02660 or Hope Hospice | McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, Sandwich, MA, 02537.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Steve. I was a co worker and friend and looked forward t seeing him at work. He always took the time to make people feel special and appreciated and I remember fondly the beautiful flowers he gave me when I left the agency in February. Rest in Peace, Steve.
