Mr. Killian was a lovely man. My sisters and I would see him and Mrs. Killian when we visited our mother at Nichols Village. He was always kind and gracious to us, whether he was cleaning his car or helping with the groceries or bringing in the instruments or on his way to dinner. We will remember him as a true gentleman who always was quick to smile. Our heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Killian and all the family. God bless.

I first met Mr Killian when I was in the 4th grade at took trumpet lessons from him for many years. I am very thankful for all of the life lessons and support he and the music department offered me. The time I spent in the Masco Music department was the best part of high school. Thank you Mr K! You will always be in my heart.

Wayne made my sister Janeen very happy. They met playing trombone in the circus band and shared so many mutual interests. Seeing them together always made me smile. I am grateful they found each other and shared some precious years together. My heart goes out to the children and family. Wayne will be sorely missed.

So sad to learn of Wayne's passing. My deepest sympathy to Janeen and all the Killian family. Wayne was a real trouper. It was always great to be in the same trombone section with Wayne and Janeen. Wayne always seemed to have a certain spark... an exhuberance to match the tempo of a Windjammers concert or rehearsal session and an outgoing, friendly personality for every occasion. He will be sorrely missed.

I first met Wayne in the Windjammers Band several years ago. During our time together we enjoyed funny stories, good restaurants and of course, playing trombone in the band. I will miss him greatly, but know he is in a better place.

The Dexters of then Kinsman Lane, Topsfield add their condolences to a great teacher and mentor. I recall so often how I hated those freezing cold football games, but I went to every one of them for four years without fail. It taught us discipline and group tolerance as well as the value of learning marching formations and how to stir up a crowd with a few measures of inspiring sound. Do some remember us going to the evening meeting of the School Board to fashion parade our baggy grey marching band uniforms in order to then beg for new uniforms that were black and red with a hint of white by day but turned into black tie tuxedos for our concerts! Mr Killian had this 'it will happen' attitude. He expanded our horizons and accepted anyone who was willing to give an instrument a try. My life long love of music was certainly molded by his kind spirit as well as the great teachers he brought on board. I play the grand piano every day and will now think more often of him. We were so lucky at Masco; so many dedicated educators who wanted us to be more than we were, for all the right reasons. Thank you to the Killian family for so many good memories. I was glad to see Kim Killian at our 2016 40th Class of '76 and express my appreciation then to her in person. We also had a good laugh about her mother stretching out fresh milk with powdered milk (something I watched with amazement when I spent time in their home after school with Kim and her sister), but Kim had no recollection). Frugal New Englanders are we still! Charlotte Dexter (Murray) in London https://www.barclayhouselondon.com [email protected]

The Smith family is very sorry for your loss. We fondly remember our days at Masco - and the wonderful and many musical experiences we enjoyed. Your dad was such an important force behind the music and art program at Masconomet. From the marching band trip to Switzerland, the dinner dances, concerts, musicals - it was a magical time. Sending love and prayers to you all.

Although I was never in the band, I was always involved with music while at Masco. Mr. Killian was always very pleasant and always smiling. I often have thought about him as I drive by Masconomet when in the area.

I have a connection to Wayne through my long-time friend Jenny Beaujean. She had recounted their competitive Scrabble Games, and his love of music. At some point many years ago, I realized the Jean and Wayne my parents talked about from the Air Stream Rallies were actually Jenny's Mom and Stepdad. Small world, since my parents were spending summers in Upstate New York and winters in Florida at the time. My parents loved dancing to the music of the Air Stream Band, and I got to catch them once at a Rally in Western Mass. I'm very sorry for your loss; at the same time, I'm so heartened by Wayne's example of living a full life.

I am so sorry to hear of Wayne's death. He was always a good friend when I worked at Masconomet and then I enjoyed our times at various Topsfield Historical Society events. I last saw him at the retirement luncheon up in Newburyport and could tell he wasn't feeling well but it was nice that Kristin was able to come and have lunch with us also. I will miss this gentle man.
