Ariela Aja Lili Mahoney, 74, died on June 20, 2013 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 9, 1939 in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of the late Milo and Lili (Pelc) Hnilicka. Aja grew up in Czechoslovakia until the age of 7, her family then escaped communist Czechoslovakia. She was a former longtime resident of Concord, MA and taught kindergarten for the Needham, MA public schools. Aja had lived in Fremont, NH for the last 45 years. She loved gardening and was an avid member of the Fremont Garden Club. Aja is survived by 2 nephews, Thor Downing of Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Marc Downing and his wife Amanda Georges-Downing also of Tortola, British Virgin Islands. She is also survived by several cousins and many local friends as well as friends abroad. Calling hours were held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2|4 and 6|8 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., Raymond, NH. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 1:00 PM, at the Peoples United Methodist Church, 363 Main St., Fremont, NH. Burial followed in Village Cemetery in Fremont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Fremont Garden Club, 109 Scribner Rd., Fremont, NH 03044 or to Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Rd., Exeter, NH 03833. A special person--the children Aja taught over the years, her nephews, friends, neighbors, Baby and Molly, her horse, the house she built, and all of the flowers in her garden will miss her. We will miss her.
